Leaves: Green; opposite, oval to ovate, upper leaves reduced, bractlike.
Flower Color: Lavender or violet and white; dramatic curling flowers, lower lip lavender or purple, other petals white, 1 to 7 flowers, corolla 7 to 14 mm long, inflorescence a narrow panicle, stamens strongly arched (see photo above) 10 to 25mm long.
Flowering Season: July to October.
Elevation: 3,500 to 6,000 feet.
Habitat Preferences: Mid- to upper-elevations, rocky slopes, roadsides and open sandy areas.
Recorded Range: Arizona Bluecurls is relatively rare in the United States where it is native to Arizona, New Mexico and marginally in Texas. In Arizona it is found in the southern part of the state in Cochise, Graham, Pima and Santa Cruz Counties. In New Mexico in is found in the southwest part of the state in Grant and Hildago Counties and in the northwest corner in San Juan County. Trichostema arizonicum is also native to northern Mexico.
